Introduction

Eleaf’s MELO line of sub-ohm tanks have always been known for their simplicity and affordability, offering a solid vaping experience without breaking the bank. The MELO 4 follows this tradition, introducing updated EC2 coils and a user-friendly design. Available in two sizes, the D22 (22mm, 2mL) and D25 (25mm, 4.5mL), it caters to different preferences, particularly with current TPD regulations in mind.

In this review, we’ll assess if the MELO 4 lives up to its predecessors and if the new EC2 coils bring any significant improvements to flavor and vapor production. Eleaf provided us with both the D22 and D25 versions for this review.

Key Features of the Eleaf Melo 4 Tank:

  • Convenient Retractable Top Fill System: A simple slide-to-open design for quick and easy refills.
  • All-new EC2 Coil Series: Designed for optimal flavor and vapor, these coils are based on the popular EC coils.
  • Detachable Structure: Easy to disassemble for cleaning and maintenance.
  • Dual Adjustable Bottom Airflow: Allows users to customize their draw from tight to airy.
  • Multiple Options: Available in 2mL (D22) and 4.5mL (D25) capacities.
  • Stylish Color Options: Offered in various colors to match your device.

Eleaf Melo 4 D22 and D25

The Eleaf Melo 4 tanks share a common aesthetic, differing primarily in diameter and e-liquid capacity. The D22 is ideal for smaller mods and discreet vaping, while the D25 offers extended vaping time between refills. Both tanks feature a sturdy stainless steel and glass construction, ensuring durability and a clean look.

The most notable feature is the new retractable top-fill system. A small arrow on the top cap indicates where to push, revealing a kidney-shaped fill port. This design is highly convenient and minimizes mess. Airflow is managed by dual cyclops slots at the base, which are easy to adjust for your preferred draw.

Disassembly is straightforward, allowing for easy cleaning and coil replacement. The tanks come with a standard 510 delrin drip tip, which is comfortable and replaceable.

Eleaf EC2 Coils

The Melo 4 introduces the new EC2 coil series, an evolution of Eleaf’s popular EC coils. These coils are designed for robust flavor and impressive vapor production. The review units included two coil types:

  • EC2 0.3ohm Kanthal Coil: Rated for 30-80W, best between 45-60W.
  • EC2 0.5ohm Kanthal Coil: Rated for 30-100W, best between 40-70W.

Both coils feature organic cotton wicking and are designed for direct-to-lung (DTL) vaping. They promise consistent performance and a good lifespan, typical of Eleaf coils.

Using the Melo 4 Sub-Ohm Tank

Setting up the Melo 4 is straightforward. After unboxing, ensure all parts are finger-tight. Prime your coil by dripping a few drops of e-liquid onto the wicking ports, then screw it into the base. Fill the tank through the retractable top-fill port, let it sit for 5-10 minutes to saturate the coil, and you’re ready to vape.

During testing, we used a variety of e-liquids, mostly 70VG/30PG blends, which wicked perfectly with both coil types. The top-fill mechanism worked flawlessly, making refills quick and mess-free. The adjustable airflow allowed for fine-tuning, providing a smooth and satisfying draw.

Performance

The Melo 4 tanks performed admirably across both sizes and coil options. Both EC2 coils provided excellent flavor and substantial vapor production, especially within their recommended wattage ranges.

The Melo 4 D25 – Performance

The D25, with its larger capacity, was our preferred choice for extended vaping. The 0.3ohm coil provided a warm and flavorful vape at 50-60W, producing dense clouds. Stepping up to the 0.5ohm coil at 60-70W delivered an even warmer vape with slightly more vapor, though the flavor remained consistent and clear. We experienced no dry hits, leaking, or gurgling throughout our testing period. The coil life was also impressive, lasting well over a week with regular use.

The Melo 4 D22 – Performance

The D22, while smaller, delivered a similar quality vape. It performed best with the 0.3ohm coil around 45-55W. The reduced capacity meant more frequent refills, but the performance was on par with its larger sibling. For those who prefer a more compact setup or are limited by TPD regulations, the D22 is an excellent option.

Both tanks delivered clean, accurate flavor rendition and impressive cloud production for their size. The airflow was smooth, and the drip tip remained comfortable even during prolonged vaping sessions.

Conclusion

The Eleaf Melo 4 sub-ohm tank is a strong contender in the affordable sub-ohm market. It combines user-friendly features, solid construction, and excellent performance, primarily thanks to the new EC2 coils. Whether you opt for the compact D22 or the larger capacity D25, you’re getting a reliable tank that delivers on both flavor and vapor.

For its price point, the Melo 4 offers exceptional value, making it highly recommended for both new and experienced vapers looking for a dependable everyday sub-ohm tank.
