SPINFUEL VAPE REVIEW SCOREThe Review for the VooPoo Drag 2 Starter Kit was written by another staff writer, and he did a good job with it. I could probably get away with telling you the size, its integrated battery, and how it performs, and point you to the other review for all the details. But I’m not going to do that because as good as that review is, the Drag 2 Mini Kit definitely deserves its own standalone review.

Both the VooPoo Drag 2 Starter Kit and the Drag 2 Mini Starter Kit were released on the same day. I find that interesting because the way it usually works is that a manufacturer of vape mods would release a full-size mod first, then ‘goose’ sales with a ‘mini’ version. I can’t tell you why VooPoo did this, just that they did.

There are just a couple of differences between the full-size Drag 2 Kit and the Drag 2 Mini Kit. One is size; the Drag 2 Mini is 3.2-inches by 1.9-inches by 1-inch, whereas the full-size Drag 2 is 4.37-inches by 2-inches by 1.04-inches. From the dimensions, both Drag 2 mods are not all that different in size, but holding them up, side by side, you can see that the Drag 2 Mini is somewhat shorter.

“ELEMENT

The full-size Drag 2 is a Dual-18650 mod with a maximum wattage output of 177W, whereas the Drag 2 Mini delivers 117W of maximum output (fully charged), some 60W less. The Mini is also powered by 4400mAh Integrated Battery, with fast recharging, and lastly, whereas the full-size Drag 2 Starter Kit includes one 0.4ohm U2 Dual Coil (preinstalled) and one 0.2ohm N3 Triple Mesh Coil, the Drag 2 Mini includes a 0.6ohm P2 Single Mesh Coil (preinstalled) and the 0.13ohm N1 Single Mesh Coil.

With a price difference of roughly $10 between the full-size and the mini, it makes me wonder why the need for the mini Drag 2 in the first place. All the features of the Drag 2 are also in the Drag 2 Mini, including the Gene.FIT chipset.

Operating the VooPoo Drag 2 Mini Vape Mod

Operating the Voopoo Drag 2 and Drag 2 Mini are identical. 5-clicks off/on, 3-clicks to the menu.

Once inside the menu the main feature is choosing which setting to us. The Gene.FIT chipset will detect the atomizer resistance automatically and set the optimal wattage for it automatically. While it may take a little tweaking with the wattage or temperature, for the most part the Gene.FIT does an excellent job setting the wattage for the coils you’re using.

The FIT Modes – Flavor Mode, Cloud Mode, and Battery Mode

To get into the menu to select the FIT modes the user does a quick 3-clicks with the fire button. The screen then displays the twin battery icons (even with the Mini model) and offers the choice of Mode 1, 2, and 3.

Like the other reviewer here at Spinfuel VAPE, I too choose to use the number 3, for maximum cloud production and excellent flavor.

Fit 1 – The Battery Setting – FIT 1 allows the user to conserve battery life by setting the power to the lowest recommended output range for the coil head in use.

Fit 2 – The Flavor Setting – FIT 2 offers medium output power with an emphasis on flavor production.

Fit 3 – The FIT 3 mode is for cloud chasers, it is the Cloud Setting that provides maximum power within the coil’s wattage range for maximum cloud production.

While users can place the Mini in TC mode, choose SS, Ni, and Ti, the VooPoo included coils are Kanthal Mesh coils.

For the first few days I used the P2 Mesh and the N1 Mesh coil heads, but when we got a hold of some extra Triple Mesh Coils, the VooPoo N3 coil, I switched to it for the remainder of the review period, and after.

The Uforce T2 Sub-Ohm

There is a major redesign at work between the Uforce T1 and T2. The Uforce T1 sub-ohm tank is larger and more ornate that subdued T2 sub-ohm tank. Preference for one or the other is purely subjective, especially since both the T1 and T2 can use all the VooPoo Replacement Coils.

Both coil heads in the Drag 2 Mini Starter Kit are Single Mesh coils. A Mesh coil uses a heating element in a mesh form factor. Regular coils use thin strips of wire that are wound up into a tight coil and attached to the posts and surrounded by cotton wicking. A mesh coil uses a real “mesh” metal, mostly Kanthal.

A Mesh coil has a huge amount of surface area that the current from the mod heats up. Because it is a mesh, the eJuice clings to the entire surface area and vaporizes in an instant. This mesh creates superior flavor the like of which a wire coil cannot. And as for vapor production, it simply follows that because more eJuice is being instantly vaporized, more vapor production follows. Mesh Coils are “the” hottest thing in sub-ohm tanks this year, and with very good reason.

Mesh coils also require less power to provide the user with an optimal vape. So, when your Drag 2 Mini has a maximum output of just 117W, all the VooPoo coils will provide a wonderful vape experience.

The advent of Mesh Coils means that for those that use them there is no need to purchase a high-wattage mod. In fact, if the user intends on using the Uforce T2, the full-size Drag 2 Mod will never be set higher than 110W, leaving all that leftover power sitting there, untapped.

The VooPoo Uforce T2 uses a 5mL bubble glass as standard and provides a 3.5mL spare straight glass as a spare. I don’t understand why manufacturers of vape gear cheap out when it comes to the spare glass. The cost involved between the bubble glass and the straight glass cannot be a factor. To me it makes no sense to provide a spare glass tube that is different from the one already attached to the tank.

If you’re an experienced Vaper you will be able to detect the differences between the various coil heads made for VooPoo sub-ohm tanks. Some of oriented toward flavor and some are oriented toward massive clouds.

I’m a big fan of Mesh Coils, and I have a strong feeling that when the Spinfuel Vape Choice Awards are handed out to the best vape mods, best tanks, and so on, the best sub-ohms will either be completely Mesh, or offer replacement Mesh coils. You can’t beat the deep, rich flavor from a good quality mesh coil.

Considering an Integrated Battery Mod?

Over the course of many years writing reviews for Spinfuel VAPE, I’ve always steered clear of mods that use an integrated battery instead of replaceable batteries. Back in the day it could be argued that battery sticks, Vision, etc., has “pass-through” vaping so the user could attach the battery stick to a computer or some other USB outlet and vape while charging. It’s not like that anymore.

Today, the included USB cables are much shorter than they were a few years ago. Attaching the USB cable to your laptop with a modern integrated box mod is just about impossible. And even if you could, many of today’s mods are not pass-through capable.

Having said that, when I come across a vape mod that has an integrated battery, the first thing I look at is how large the battery is. The VooPoo Drag 2 Mini has a full 4400mAh integrated battery tucked inside, and with a top power of 117W, I can vape for hours before needing to recharge. That makes an integrated battery mod worth taking seriously.

Even the heaviest vapers can attach the USB cable to a power source for an hour or two without freaking out. With the Drag 2 Mini it takes no more than an hour to fully recharge the mod, and if I needed to, I can attach it to a power source for 15 minutes and receive more than an hour of vape time from that short recharge.

While I was using the SMOK MAG Grip I noticed that even with a 4000mAh 21700 battery I didn’t get a whole lot of vape time with it. Maybe 3 hours if I was lucky, but the Drag 2 Mini provided more than 5 hours of vape time. I can definitively say that the battery management of the Drag 2 Mini is much better than the replaceable battery SMOK MAG Grip, and many others to boot.

Bottom Line

The VooPoo Drag 2 Mini Starter Kit is a fantastic pair. The Drag 2 mod has a great design, feels good in the hand, and is very easy to operate. The Uforce T2 is an excellent high-performance sub-ohm, though I still prefer the Uforce T1. The T1 holds 8mL versus the T2’s 5mL, and the awesome color combinations and finishes are far better looking than the T2, which is subtler in looks and size.

The Starter Kit has value, and both the mod and tank are high performance devices. However, if, like me, you prefer the 8mL T1, then buy the Drag 2 or Drag Mini vape mod and use the T1 on it. For that matter, with its centered 510 connector, you can use just about any sub-ohm tank you want, just as long as the coils inside don’t require more than 117W.
