Vaporfi VEX 150 TC Box Mod Review

The Vaporfi VEX 150 TC Box Mod ($129.99) is a dual 18650 (batteries not included) conservatively designed powerhouse. If I’m not mistaken, the VEX 150 is the highest wattage output Vaporfi has produced.

Using two 18650 High Drain, High Amp batteries, this mod is designed for the advanced vaper. Unfortunately, the asking price is way more than advanced vapers are willing to spend for a 150W mod. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised to find certain mainstream vapers who are looking to get into high wattage, low resistance vaping and still demand that Vaporfi customer service and 30-day satisfaction guarantee.

With the ability to fire up to 150 watts, with two removable 18650 batteries, the VEX 150 TC can fire any sub-ohm tank or RDA at optimal power. The VEX 150 offers a 510-threaded, spring-loaded center pin allows for a plethora of dripper-style tanks and a wide variety of sub-ohm tanks, including the latest from SMOK, Council of Vapor, and Sense Herakles. I used half a dozen sub-ohm tanks during my review period, all with resistances between 0.2Ω and 0.4Ω, and each tank performed just as you would expect. However, with its 22mm width, I experienced a little overhang on certain 23 and 24mm tanks.

This conservative design style can be seen as rather boring when its compared with other dual and triple 150-200W box mods like the WISMEC Reuleaux series and the Lost Vape Triade. Sporting 150W of output, it would have been nice to see not only a bit more style in the design, but also a wider width, at least at the top, to accommodate for the SMOK TFV8. Even the SMOK Baby Beast had some overhang, so that optimal power to these sub-ohm tanks is there, it comes at a price.

Vaporfi has licensed a proprietary chipset so that the VEX 150 can output at high wattage safely. Something I found an absolute delight was how this chipset showed no delays or misfires at any time. Heck, even my Lost Vape Triade had the occasional delay when firing a super low resistance coil.

The VEX 150 TC supports Kanthal A1, Ni200, Stainless Steel and Titanium coils equally well. Temperature range is the usual 200-600 degrees Fahrenheit.

I’ll admit that the VEX 150 TC did get a tad warm when vaping with the TFV8 and the octuplet coil head, but only when I approached 130-140W for more than 5 minutes. It never got too warm, and it cooled down in matter of seconds when I released the fire button.

Vaporfi licensed some Joyetech technology for the VEX 150 TC, including the awesome and large (0.96” OLED) vertically oriented display with 6 lines of information, including two battery icons that monitor both batteries in real time. The display also shows the real-time clock when not in use.

The buttons on the VEX 150 TC are large, fairly flush, though not completely, and responsive. The fire button is a large square at the top front side of the mod, the plus and minus buttons are under the display. For charging in-house, the VEX 150 TC offers a USB port on the lower side of the mod, and the dual batteries are inserted on the bottom, with a nicely done hinged battery door.

Safety features include, over-charging, over-discharge and over-current protection along with dual vent holes to prevent shorts and relieve stress on the dual 18650 batteries. For all the power it has, at least the safety features allow the users to use it without worry.

The VEX 150 TC is, like most Vaporfi products, except for eliquid, overpriced. They are often modified versions of quality products from major manufacturers. While the price is high at least they are licensing from the better mod-makers like Joyetech.

I prefer a box mod with more style, like curves or fancy finishes like rubberized paint or leather, or even carbon fiber. But, I’m in my early 30’s, and I think the VEX 150 TC is geared to appeal to older vapers that do not want to draw attention to the mod they are choosing to use. The VEX 150 TC is available in black and stainless steel, and there is an optional silicon sleeve for in various colors for $7.99.

Recommended for high wattage vapers that do not mind paying more for worry free purchases. The 30-day guarantee is worth something to this type of user, but I just don’t know how much.
