The Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Tank is, at its core, a simple tank with one goal; provide great flavor and huge clouds of vapor. Does it succeed? Yes, but it won’t wear the Crown of Best Tank Ever. Still a fantastic sub-ohm tank regardless.

The Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Tank is fashioned from high-grade 304 Stainless Steel. Uwell doesn’t hold back with the use of this tough steel alloy; each metal component is thick, precisely machined, and made to withstand a millennium of wear and tear. In addition to this high quality precision machined steel, the tank itself is sits apart from the rest of the popular sub-ohm tanks on the market.

It’s interesting to not that the actual ‘tank’ is made with fused quartz glass. Wikipedia has this to say about fused quartz glass:

Fused quartz or fused silica is glass consisting of silica in amorphous (non-crystalline) form. It differs from traditional glasses in containing no other ingredients, which are typically added to glass to lower the melt temperature. Fused silica, therefore, has high working and melting temperatures. The optical and thermal properties of fused quartz are superior to those of other types of glass due to its purity. For these reasons, it finds use in situations such as semiconductor fabrication and laboratory equipment. It has better ultraviolet transmission than most other glasses, and so is used to make lenses and other optics for the ultraviolet spectrum. Its low coefficient of thermal expansion also makes it a useful material for precision mirror substrates.^[1]

Now, combine this pure, optical-grade quality glass that holds 4mL of eliquid, and the thick 304 Stainless Steel and the Uwell Crown exterior is hard, if not impossible, to beat. This thick stainless steel and fused quartz glass comes at a price; it’s heavy. Not too heavy, but you’ll know your battery has an industrial strength tank attached. Surprisingly, the Uwell Crown, in all its glory, is priced at $22.99.

There are no fancy tricks or slick technology at work with this sub-ohm tank. Filling the tank, replacing the coil head, and cleaning up are quite traditional actually.

That said, the Uwell Crown is both a top-fill tank and a bottom fill tank. The top cap is, well, three pieces. The thick, tall, wide-bore drip tip, the knurled middle cap that is unscrewed to reveal the fill four slots of bottom layer of the top cap. This is where you fill your tank using the top-fill option. Its chimney is wide, bold, and matches the color of the stainless steel exterior perfectly, in my case, that would be Rose Gold.

There is no hidden airflow system. The air is pulled in by the two airflow slots on the bottom cap. The dial is knurled nicely for a good grip, and each position of the airflow movement is notched to make sure the opening of the slots are secure and not accidentally moved out of position. The air is then pulled in, under the coils, and rest is magic.

These excellent features all point to the industrial design aesthetics; functional, clean, with an unlimited lifetime. I should also mention that the properties of the fused quartz glass and the drip tip provide exceptional heat dissipation.

The Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Tank offers various coil heads specifically designed to provide a wide variety of vaping choices. These choices include a Stainless Steel surgical grade, (316L) wire at 0.5-ohm and a dual coil 0.25-ohm, and Nickel (Ni-200) temperature control wires at 0.15-ohms. Note that Stainless Steel wire coils work with both variable wattage and temperature control modes.

100% pure Japanese organic cotton is securely wrapped around both coil head choices. These coil heads are large, but not the largest I’ve used, though they provide more than enough clean, pure flavor and huge, thick vapor clouds.

Personal Experience

We’ve had an enormous influx of sub-ohm tanks come in to the Spinfuel headquarters. For a few weeks we’ve all been enjoying several new, or nearly-new sub-ohm tanks. The Uwell Crown turned out to be a real pleasure to use, and at just $22.95, you get a lot of tank for the money.

The Uwell Crown looks and feels better on a larger box mod, thought it’s 22mm width will fit flush with most box mods, big and small. On the smaller box mods, like the eVic-VTC Mini or the Aspire Odyssey Mini the tank is downright top heavy, but I’ve been using it exclusively with the iStick TC100W, a dual-18650 beauty, and it feels exactly right.

The coil head I used most was the dual coil 0.25-ohm Stainless Steel in both variable wattage and temperature control. Variable Wattage mode works terrifically with this coil, but when I switched the iStick TC100W to Stainless Steel mode, the best performance came at setting the wattage to 40w and taking the temperature up to a toasty 540:f. This setting provided warm, thick, and flavorful vapor just the way I like it.

We stocked up on last Christmas’s Johnson Creek’s Baked Apples, which provides a marvelous thump of a throat hit with just 3mg of Nicotine, and I blazed through a 30mL bottle in a day. I’m just beginning Week 3 with this coil head and it shows no sign of dying out, though I don’t expect it to last more than another week. Your mileage may differ depending on your vaping style, the eliquid you use, and the hours spent vaping each day.

The ramp up time for Stainless Steel coils isn’t bad, and although I’m no expert with metals and coefficients, I have to admit that the dual coil 0.25-ohm coil head took a few seconds to ramp up to maximum vapor output. Definitely not a deal-killer for me, but it was noticeable. The Ni200 coil head, as well as the 0.5-ohm SS head had faster ramp ups, which is why I think the dual coils made a bit of difference in getting the vape to full steam. I’ve included a photo of the coil head in order to show you what it looks like looking down into the coil/cotton and the side saturation holes that suck in the juice to keep the coils nice and wet with your favorite eliquid.

Since the Uwell Crown is a real sub-ohm tank I wouldn’t recommend it to those of you that are using 50:50 PG/VG eliquid unless the nicotine level is really low, and you already know what to expect from a high performance sub-ohm and thin juice.

Uwell Crown Bottom Line

The Uwell Crown is made so well, using super premium materials that it will last forever. In addition, the Crown is an easy tank to master. The true authentic flavor of the eliquids I love to vape with shine true with the Uwell Crown on par
with my beloved Joyetech Delta 2, and the combination of the organic cotton, surgical grade stainless steel coil wire, large airflow slots, and the wide-bore drip tip come together to produce so much vapor you best not drive a car while using it.

Watching myself try to type this review while vaping with the Crown often made me laugh; I had to stop several times to wait for the clouds to pass by my screen and keyboard.

Recommendation: Anyone vaping in the sub-ohm territory, and who wants to, will enjoy the Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Tank immensely.

Just make a mental note that the tank is on the large side, and it is heavier than you might expect. However, when building a tank with thick stainless steel and fused quartz 4mL high glass, you can’t expect it to be a lightweight.
