A couple of months ago UWELL contacted vapers that had purchased their products online at their webstore, to ask them to take a survey. A few hundred were to win the new Sub-Ohm Tank called the UWELL Crown Mini,  and I was one of the winners. A week or two later the Crown Mini showed up and I began using it immediately.

UWELL sent a follow up email asking all the winners to post a photo on Instagram with their tank, but I declined. I didn’t want to appear to be a spokesman for the company.

There was a period of a few months last year when I was all about UWELL sub-ohm – tanks. I loved my UWELL  Crown, and the Rafale, and I used these tanks about 75% of the time. It’s interesting to note that the UWELL Rafale has been discontinued, and a few new tanks have since been released, the D1 and the SE – 1 and they are currently under review by Tom. But it was the Rose Gold Crown that really had a hold on me for a while.

Things change, and although most of my tanks are now various SMOK TFV8’s and TFV12’s, I do admire the UWELL Crown Mini and continue to use it, especially for new vape juice  that I’m asked to try.

About the UWELL Crown Mini Sub-Ohm Tank

UWELL Crown Mini Sub-Ohm Tank Review 1

The Uwell Crown Mini, (22mm diameter) Sub-Ohm TC Tank takes a lot of the original Crown design elements into a reduced form factor. The Crown Mini has a tiny juice capacity of just 2mL. It is this small capacity and the flavor fidelity of the coils that make it a good choice for me when I’m trying out ejuice I haven’t vaped before.

The UWELL Crown Mini features a threaded top-fill design that makes it simple to refill, which I do often because of… the capacity. Unscrew the knurled top cap and pour in the juice, that’s all there is to it.  There is no half-moon O-Ring limitation that we see in SMOK TF tanks, just 4 large openings covering the full 22mm diameter.

Airflow is located on the base of the tank, and it features a locking mechanism for precision airflow control. The best performance with the Crown Mini is seen when the airflow is wide open, but no matter how tight, or loose, you want the draw to be, the airflow control ring locks it down nicely. Each of the airflow slots are 7mm by 2mm.

The tank is constructed with 316 Stainless Steel, meaning it will last forever with minimal care. The coil heads are also constructed with 316 SS, and with any tank, the coils are the most important part of any tank.

The Magic is in the Coils

The UWELL Crown Mini uses a new coil technology that has now extended to the newer D1 and SE-1 tanks. The coils utilize stainless steel (SUS316) and pure nickel (Ni200) heating elements so that it appeals to vapers that want tremendous performance in TC mode.

The threading of the coils is the same threading used in the Crown 1, so if you have any Crown 1 replacement coils they will work perfectly with the Crown Mini. These coil heads are designed with large juice ports that allow complete saturation of the 100% Organic Japanese Cotton, and in all the time I’ve used these coils I’ve never experienced a dry hit caused by dry cotton. Coil life seems to be about 10 days, depending on the makeup of the juice of course. Interestingly, when I vape with Ethos Crispy Treats in a SMOK TFV8 tank I get about 3, maybe 4 days before the coil gives out, but with these 316SS coils I can get the full 10 days’ lifespan. For that reason alone, I like this tank.

Temperature Control and the UWELL Crown Mini

As a rule, I don’t vape with TC coils except for the rare SS coils that I use in Wattage mode. That said, I understand that for many vapers the fact that SMOK TFV8/TFV12 replacement coils are Kanthal only, TC vapers are out of luck, so looking for an equivalent tank that does work in TC mode, UWELL is a good solution.

There are pros and cons with SS and Ni200 coils that deserve to be mentioned. The biggest advantage is that when using TC mode, you won’t vape through as much e-juice as you do with Kanthal coils. The biggest disadvantage with TC coils is flavor fidelity.

When you buy the UWELL Crown Mini, in the box are two Stainless Steel coil heads, a 0.25Ω Dual Coil, and a 0.5Ω Dual Coil. Both use SS316 wire as the heating element. Thankfully, 316 SS provides near-Kanthal flavor fidelity, and if you decide to use the Crown Mini as a TC tank or not, the flavor and vapor is just about on par with Kanthal coil heads.

Bottom Line

Using my Vaporshark Hedron with the UWELL Crown Mini I vaped in Wattage and Temp Control modes for this review period. Performance with the Hedron between the modes were negligible, both modes delivered plenty of flavor and plenty of vapor. Even so, the Crown Mini performance didn’t change my perspective on TC vaping. You can certainly avoid dry hits and scorched cotton, but its more complicated than finding the optimal wattage and vaping till the cows come home.

The UWELL Crown Mini is available in Stainless Steel, Rose Gold, and Black. The black model has a smoother, less metallic feel, and is the one I prefer.

I like everything about the Crown Mini except for the measly 2mL juice capacity. But, like I said above, it makes a nice addition to my collection of tanks, much like the SMOK Baby Beast and it’s 2mL capacity, because I can test out an eliquid without wasting it.

Coil replacements are sold in 4-packs for $12.95 at Element Vape. Compared to SMOK’s 5-pack at $9.95 at Element Vape, that’s something to consider as well.

Replacement coils for the Crown Mini are here.

of UWELL quite nicely. The 2mL capacity is disappointing, but to go any higher than we might just as well buy a different UWELL tank, no? $21.95 at Element Vape, if you’re in the market for a fine tank with even finer 316 coil heads, this could certainly fit the bill.”
