VV/VW Box Mod with 2400mah Battery & OLED Display

Impressions

ICIG V8 BY USICIG SPINFUEL REVIEWAt first glance you can’t help but like it. It’s fun design, nice metallic and matte finish, large adjust/firing button… all contribute to the idea of a fun box mod. But there is more to it than just a fun box mod.

Operating the ICig V8 is very easy. 5 fast-clicks power up the device. 3 short-clicks take in and out of variable voltage and variable wattage. The OLED display changes to voltage and wattage so you instantly know which mode you’re in. 4-clicks lock the device into its current settings.
To change the settings in either mode you simply turn the dial. Each increment has a tactile click and as you turn the dial the display reflects the wattage or voltage you choose instantly. It is very accurate and very easy. Firing the ICig V8 is just a matter of pressing the large firing button.

Instead of a floating pin connector the ICig V8 has a hex-screw pin that is adjusted with the included ubiquitous blue screwdriver. The pin is such that every tank I attached I could get a solid connection. Turning the hex-screw pin was required only twice with more than 10 different tanks.

Battery Life – I was disappointed to see just a 2400mAh 18650 battery built into the device. Likely an issue of keeping the cost down, but a 2600mAh battery would make quite a difference when vaping with a sub-ohm tank. As a matter of fact, vaping with a tank equipped with a 0.2-ohm coil head depleted a charge in oneICIG V8 BY USICIG SPINFUEL REVIEW of the ICig V8’s I used in under 90 minutes of continuous vaping. It is a pass-through device, so using it while you charge is certainly an option, provided you use your computer a lot.

Falling Short Of A Homerun

Where the ICig V8 falls short is when you compare it to another small box mod on the market. As it happens, I reviewed the ICig V8 just after spending time with the Pioneer4you IPV D2, an even smaller box mod with a maximum wattage output of 75w, and a replaceable 18650 battery. The IPV D2 is about $20 more than the ICig V8 but the extra $20 is well worth it. More wattage and an even lower resistance of 0.1-ohm, and temperature control mode to boot, well, you can see why I would choose the IPV D2 over the ICig V8 every time.

Perspective

As an exercise of perspective I introduced the ICig V8 to a Vaper who has been a Vaper for about 3 months. She is still in the Vision Spinner and Clearomizer stage, so I sat with her and showed the ICig V8, demonstrated it, allowed her to use it for a day. She came back telling me that this was her next purchase. She adored it, and ordered it that very day. Even after I showed her the IPV D2 and described the features that the ICig V8 didn’t have she was not fazed in the least. For her, the ICig V8 was about looks, color, and that large firing button + adjustment wheel. She had no interest in temperature control, didn’t want to know about Ni200 wire coil heads, and was quite happy to have the ICig V8 and an Kanger Subtank Mini. This is who the market is for the ICig V8, and it makes perfect sense.

Recommendation

ICIG V8 BY USICIG SPINFUEL REVIEWMainstream and New Vapers – The ICig V8 will appeal to mainstream Vapers and new Vapers because it is more “stylish” than the IPV D2. The beautiful metallic finish, the large round firing button/Adjustment wheel are attractive, plus its smaller price tag are good enough reasons to choose ICig V8 over the IPV D2 if that’s what you’re looking for.

Grade: C Why a C? – If the Pioneer4you IPV D2 didn’t exist I would have given a grade of B or even B+ to the ICig V8. Take the IPV D2 out of consideration and you look at the feature set and price… well, you have a winning box mod on your hands. Aesthetically pleasing, easy to use, a fine set of safety features and a good set of specs all for under $50 is something you don’t see all the time. However, when placing the specs of the ICig V8 and the IPV D2 side by side the large number of features in the IPV D2 list far outweighs the features in the ICig V8 for someone like me.

It should also be noted that USICIG offers a 60w version of the ICig V8. All other features remain the same as the 30w model.
