Unlike the last time we reviewed the SMOK Majesty Starter Kit, we won’t be dividing it up into two separate reviews, one for the Carbon Fiber (here) and one for the Resin models (here). Instead, this review of the new SMOK Majesty Luxe Edition, will cover both the Carbon Fiber and the Cobra Resin versions.

About the SMOK Majesty

“ELEMENT

There are eight Majesty Luxe Editions altogether, and are listed below. All eight devices are identical in form and function, the only differences are the exterior finishes. Four are carbon fiber, and the other four are what is called by SMOK as cobra resin finish (the cobra resin editions are slightly higher in retail price). I would suggest that the Majesty Luxe Cobra Resin versions might be precursors for the upcoming Resa Prince Sub-Ohm Tank. See Preview

I understand that there is a segment of the vaping community that despises SMOK products. For one reason or another, the anti-SMOK Vapers will never even bother to consider the latest offerings of SMOK, no matter how much better their products are in 2017/2018. Yes, they are certainly prolific, and yes, SMOK will sometimes put out Mods that are different only in their exterior design and are identical on the inside, but in the end, its the quality of the products now, today, that count.

Truth to be told, the differences between the SMOK ProColor (here) and the S-PRIV (here), T-PRIV (here), Veneno (here), and the Majesty in the inside are practically zero, save for an extra 5 watts of output here and there. That said, as high-wattage, fully featured box mods, they shine real value at their respective price points.

The Majesty Reborn

smok majesty kit 2After a flurry of releases that all seemed to be the same, save for exterior design, SMOK has proved that when push comes to shove, they are capable of designing a gorgeous mod with ample features and impressive specs. The SMOK Majesty Luxe Edition Starter Kit, which includes the full 8mL TFV12 Prince Tank (here), is one of the best starter kits for the price I’ve seen in the past year, only the X-PRIV (here) is equally as impressive.

Available in several colors, both the carbon fiber and cobra resin finishes, (with matching Prince tanks) will no doubt appeal to a myriad of Vapers, and anyone else looking for a handsome, detail engineered mod and tank. And as far as the design goes, the SMOK Majesty Luxe Edition is the polar opposite of the recently released SMOK S-PRIV, with its embossed Skull in a Top Hat exterior. SMOK falters on occasion, but when it comes back, it comes back strong.

The Prism Finish vs Cobra Resin Finish

“Nitecore”

The previous Majesty Box Mod was produced in a tight-weaved carbon fiber finish and a resin finish. There are some differences in the new carbon fiber models that include the metal trim of the mods, where the ‘colors’ are found. The carbon fiber body also possesses a wider weave in the pattern. These new metal trim colors reflect the same colors as the accompanying Prince Tanks. The previous carbon fiber Majesty Mod used black metal trim and it was the carbon fiber bodies that held the colors, here it’s the metal trims that carry the color, the carbon fiber bodies are strictly black.

The Cobra Resin bodies are also all black, but have the same cobra resin pattern found in the 810-wide-bore cobra resin drip tips of the Prince. As I mentioned, the colors of the mods in the cobra resin models are also carried in the metal trims (and metal faceplates) while matching the Prince tank in the Kit.

In conclusion– SMOK and various vendors are asking an additional $10USD for a Cobra Resin body. I’m not totally sold on its added value. Then again, in our shipment we did not receive any of the Cobra Resin Majesty Luxe Kits, and the Prism Rainbow and 7-Color Cobra looks incredible in the supplied photographs, so if there is added value in these models, I won’t know until I see one in person. As for the Rainbow Cobra Resin, this one looks incredible, but I’ve been disappointed in the actual appearance of “rainbow” finishes before, so I want to see this one in particular to see if the  added value of the Cobra Resin Majesty Luxe Editions is worth it.

Let's Talk Power and Specs

Like various other SMOK Mods introduced in the past year, the Majesty Luxe has a power output of 6W to 225W using two hi-amp 18650 cells. (Remember this prediction; I expect future PRIV mods from SMOK to possess dual 2X700 cells perhaps as soon as a month or two after the Chinese New Year holiday).

In the real world of vaping, an output range of 6W to 225W means little to most of us. Chances are if you’re vaping with a SMOK Mod and using a SMOK Sub-Ohm Tank, 50W to 90W is all you’ll ever need. For that matter, if a Vaper does indeed use a SMOK Sub-Ohm (except the Cloud Beast and Cloud Beast King with certain coils), anything more than 60W – 90W is more than adequate.

Well, except for those that continue to use the SMOK GX 350 Kit, which is the only Starter Kit from SMOK that includes the SMOK TFV8 Cloud Beast that includes the powerful 0.15ohm V8-T8 Octuple Coil (6.6T) that can vape at a high of 180W. In the year since the GX 350 was in production, SMOK has focused on dual-18650 Mods with a wattage range of 220W to 230W, while the more modern Sub-Ohm Tanks are becoming better with truer flavor fidelity and copious clouds at just 60W to 80W. This is progress in the right direction; less e-liquid consumption and longer battery life. (The new SMOK T-PRIV 3 is an exception)

In conclusion– The Majesty Luxe Box Mod is completely capable of delivering exactly the vape experience you want. It lacks for nothing and offers more than enough power to drive the TFV12 Prince using any of the available coils or RBA head.

The TFV12 Prince RBA Head

Regardless of the fact that the reborn Majesty Luxe Mod uses a chipset capable of very accurate temperature control, including adjustable TCR, if the user is dead set on taking advantage of the TC capabilities while using the included TFV12 Prince, the user must pick up an RBA head for the Prince Tank, for about $12. Using the RBA head with the Prince will allow the user to construct coils with any wire they choose.

Then of course, the SMOK Majesty is available as a standalone Box Mod, (though the ‘Luxe’ moniker refers to the new Kit version, meaning the Prince Tank addition). Purchasing the previous SMOK Majesty as a standalone Mod (or the Luxe model) the user can equip it with any Sub-Ohm tank, RDA, RDTA, and RTA on the market, using Nickel, Titanium, and Stainless-Steel wires. Both the previous Majesty Mod and the Luxe edition has a minimum resistance of 0.1-ohms.

In conclusion–  More than likely, a purchase of the Majesty Luxe (or any of the Luxe editions) means making a commitment to the Kanthal coil heads available for the Prince Tank. This does not render the Temperature Control Suite useless, it just means that using the Prince Tank, or any SMOK Sub-Ohm, sidelines the TC capabilities without an additional investment.

Wrapping Up and the Score

If I had to choose between the new SMOK Majesty Luxe and the X-PRIV w/Prince Kits, it would be difficult. I have both, and as far as performance goes they are pretty much identical. The sizes are slightly different, the body design and finishes are different, and I give the comfort edge to the X-PRIV. That said, from an objective viewpoint the new SMOK Majesty Luxe Edition is a high-performance, very appealing Box Mod Starter Kit. For that, and other considerations, I score the Majesty Luxe Edition:

Score: A
