Wismec continues to refine and polish its Jaybo-inspired design for the RX mod series, and the Reuleaux RX2 230W Dual-21700 Mod might be the most streamlined one to date. With capacity for two high-rate 21700 batteries (which are included) and the company’s latest firmware onboard, we’re excited to see how this mod might change the game for high-powered, compact vape devices.
Let’s take a closer look at the specs, to see if the Reuleaux RX2 230W Dual-21700 Mod is another rehash, or a distinct improvement over the company’s other mods.
A familiar, but entirely functional design
Wismec customers will immediately feel comfortable with the now-standard “Reuleaux look.” Especially those who enjoyed the company’s game-changing, versatile RX2/3 device. The Reuleaux RX2 230W Dual-21700 mod maintains the hexagonal form factor, while reducing the height to just 81mm – no small feat considering this 230-watt mod is powered by a pair of fatter, taller 21700 cells.
The sliding battery panel seems to lock into place – another feature we loved on the RX2/3, the RX Gen 3, and the myriad other products Wismec has introduced in the series. Though we haven’t yet gotten one in for testing, we anticipate a hefty, dense, but entirely compact mod – at least it seems that way based upon the promo imagery.
Also returning is the winning Wismec Reuleaux firmware and operating system, which has proven to be a functional, attractive, and easy-to-read layout, which utilizes hexagonal section dividers to highlight pertinent information, and maximizing every pixel of the 1.3-inch OLED display.
Speaking of which, I’m actually happy the Reuleaux RX2 230W Dual-21700 Mod Kit doesn’t fall into the recent trap of adding TFT color displays for the hell of it, even if the different hues do nothing more than make it more difficult to decipher what’s on the screen. This monochrome format works beautifully, and – other than a larger screen size, perhaps – doesn’t need updating.
I will say, I’m becoming a little wary of the standard Reuleaux two-tone color scheme. There’s nothing wrong with the design, and it remains a striking, but still mature aesthetic. However, for those who own several Reuleaux devices already, the RX2 will definitely feel like “more of the same,” even if the horsepower is different under the hood.
On that note…
Reliable, Predictable, Dependable Power
Wismec’s promo materials for the Reuleaux RX2 230W Dual-21700 Mod Kit don’t speak of any major changes to the chipset or functionality. And maybe that’s a good thing. After all, the Reuleaux series has always been an industry leader for reliability and performance, even if they haven’t added many new features in the last year’s releases.
That said, we anticipate the same level of top-tier power and fine-tuned temp control when the Reuleaux RX2 230W Dual-21700 Mod Kit arrives later this week.
However, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t surprised by the apparent lack of bypass or TCR functionality – we hope to find them here, but the initial writeups make no mention of these features.
Maybe this is because the Reuleaux series has always been more about power. With a pair of high-rate 21700 batteries fueling the RX2, we expect both better performance at high wattages, and dramatically increased battery life when vaping at more reasonable levels.
In a nice touch, Wismec will be including a pair of 21700 cells with the Reuleaux RX2 230W Dual-21700 Mod Kit, as well as a battery sleeve adapter for those who want to use their existing 18650 batteries. We’ll be sure to measure battery performance in both setups, to see if this move to larger cells is warranted and necessary.
The reliable Wismec Gnome sub-ohm tank
Finally, Wismec completes the Reuleaux RX2 230W Dual-21700 Mod Kit by throwing in its popular Gnome sub-ohm tank. We won’t get into too much detail here, since we’ve reviewed the Gnome several times before.
We’ve always loved the flavor and vapor this tank has offered in the past, but always found fault in the limited capacity and thirsty coils. Perhaps if Wismec developed a wider glass for larger capacity, or added in an RBA deck to add value, the Gnome could find new life as an enthusiast’s tank.
Overall, Wismec may seem like it goes to the Reuleaux well quite often. But it’s a well that has produced countless iterations of a very successful, high-performing series of mods. We are hopeful the Reuleaux RX2 230W Dual-21700 Mod Kit will continue this legacy, while bringing stronger battery life and portability to the table.
