Neo Sub-Ohm Vape Mod Kit by MigVapor

The MigVapor Neo Sub-Ohm Box Mod was built to suit vapers that generally do not bother with difficult temperature control mods. Instead, MigVapor put its development resources to work creating the best “optimized” box mod for those of us that use ceramic and/or Kanthal/Cotton coil tanks, as well as vapers that want to vape with various resistances without the need to spend needless time finding the “sweet spot”. The 100W, 4.2v max output, mod self-adjusts to the proper wattage/voltage with a resistance range from 0.1Ω to 3.5Ω. The intelligent chipset does a remarkable job finding the right output so I don’t have to. But that’s not all…

Note* MigVapor has tested, and created, Nickel (TC) coil heads that do work with the Neo Sub-Ohm Vape Mod, but we cannot recommend using these Ni coils with it. Nickel has a TCR value far different from that of Kanthal A1, so users of the Neo Tank who wish to vape with Nickel coils heads should only use the tank on proper TC capable mods. For the remainder of this review I am limited the Neo Sub-Ohm Vape Mod to non-TC coil heads.

Inside the Neo Sub-Ohm Vape Mod are two hi-amp 18650 cells yielding a massive 4500mAh and a maximum amperage output of 40A. The mod itself has special, durable, rubberized paint for a soft, tactile grip. Measuring just 3.1 inches tall, 1.8 inches wide and .8 inches deep, the lightweight aluminum Neo Sub-Ohm body fits nicely tucked away in the palm of most hands. Even my small hands the Neo Sub-Ohm Vape Mod feels terrific.

Operating the MigVapor Neo Sub-Ohm box mod couldn’t be easier. The Neo doesn’t even have a display! This is a 5-click off/on device, and the only button on the mod is the oversized Fire Button. The Neo has a full 15-second draw time as well. Usually when an experienced vaper encounters a device that requires zero adjustments the impression is that performance will suffer since there is no way to adjust for coils with different resistances. I can assure you, the Neo may be simple to use, but under the hood it’s a sophisticated device. Not only does the onboard chip read the resistance of the Kanthal or Ceramic coils and sets the optimal power output, it also protects against over-charging, low voltage, short-circuit protection, and internal temperature.

Before I talk about my personal experience with the MigVapor Neo, I should talk about the Sub-Ohm tank made for it, the Neo Vape Tank. Naturally, the Neo Vape tank can be used on any mod capable of using a 510 threaded sub-ohm tank, but together, the Neo mod and Neo tank perform beautifully. The Neo Sub-Ohm Tank holds 4mL of ejuice, is 22mm in diameter, and is a Top-Fill (or bottom fill) tank. There is plenty of airflow at the base of tank, and with a simple twist anyone can open it up for massive DL (direct lung) vaping or close it down for a solid MTL, (mouth to lung) vape. Changing the coil head is a simple matter of unscrewing the base of the tank and removing the old coil and replacing it with a new one, from 0.2Ω, and 0.4Ω Kanthal A1 and Organic Cotton coil head. The Starter Kit comes with both coils, and extra color-coded O-rings.

The MigVapor Neo Sub-Ohm Vape Kit comes in two colors, green and purple. The box mod itself has a primary black rubberized finished, the green or purple color is the gorgeous geometric patterns overlaid on the black finish.

Real World Experience

I own plenty of vape gear and I know the intricacies of working with temperature control, setting TCR values, and all the rest you need to know to operate some of the most complex devices on the market. And while I do use them, for review purposes and personal use, I often complain that I wish I could all the tanks I like without having to learn the idiosyncrasies of each mod, and coil head, and how they work with various resistances. These days you’ll find various coil designs where a 0.15Ω coil has a maximum wattage range of 60W, or a 0.5Ω coil head with a maximum wattage of 100W. You can no longer assume that a 0.15Ω coil head can support extremely high wattages, you need to know the intended wattage range of the manufacturer. If you use many tanks and many different coils it can take a lot of effort to understand what the coils can do and what they cannot do.

When will a mod maker create a box mod that is both powerful and smart enough to do the work for me so all I have to do is fill a tank and get the best vape experience it can produce? When I am in “review” mode it’s a learning experience to go through all the various modes that modern mods have, but for personal vaping I want something that can equal the vape performance without having to go through all the adjustments. With the MigVapor Neo Sub-Ohm Vape Mod Kit I can now do that; vape however I want, with any eliquid I want, and get the optimal vape just by pressing down on the Fire Button, regardless of the coil resistance.

There aren’t many vapers who will argue against Kanthal and Organic cotton make the best tasting coil heads. As good as stainless steel coils are becoming, Kanthal and Cotton, as well as ceramics, have the edge when it comes to flavor fidelity. As versatile as temperature control heating elements can be, only Kanthal delivers a true flavor fidelity every time. Using Kanthal A1 means not using Temperature Control technology, and if you’re going to vape with Kanthal coil heads why pay for the extra features?

Flavor fidelity and cloud production using the Neo tank and Neo mod are first rate. Huge clouds of flavorful vapor with every hit from the moderately-wide Delrin drip tip… 4mL capacity so you won’t spend most of your vaping time refilling those tiny 2mL tanks you see everywhere… and probably the longest battery life I’ve seen in a long time, the Neo Box Mod and Sub-Ohm tank is the setup I’m beginning to use more and more when I’m not reviewing complicated mods.

“Yes, there are other mods that are basically point and shoot devices, but none of them (that I know of) have 100W of power and 40 amps of current running through them. None of them have a true box mod aesthetic, and a real Sub-Ohm 4mL tank built to optimize the performance of the mod. If you want excellent sub-ohm vaping just by pressing down on the Fire Button, the MigVapor Neo is the one you want. Available at MigVapor for just $99.95.
