Although I will as unbiased in this review for the GeekVape NOVA Starter Kit, it should be noted up front that I am a fan of GeekVape, sometimes referred to as Geek Vape. The NOVA 200W TC Starter Kit is offered in a variety of colors and finishes, and before choosing which resin color you want, you need to know that this advanced Mod comes in a Silver, Gunmetal, and Black, with a resin chassis.

GeekVape or Geek Vape NOVA Mod

The GeekVape Nova 200W Box Mod features the advanced AS Chipset. The AS chipset powers the NOVA Box Mod with a wattage range of 5W-200W. It includes a very accurate temperature control mode, bypass mode, TCR mode and a Variable Power Curve Mode.

“ELEMENT

The atomizer range of resistance of the GeekVape NOVA is 0.05 to 3.0 ohm, and a voltage range of 0.5 to 12V range. The width of the NOVA 200W Mod is just 25.1mm and it will affect how many ‘other’ Sub-Ohm Tanks the user can fit atop the NOVA without overhang. The Cerberus Tank is 25mm and takes up virtually all of the width available. Fortunately, the Cerberus is a superb tank, offering terrific flavor and ample clouds, using the Mesh Coils that come with the Starter Kit. I’ll talk more about the Cerberus and its coils in a bit.

The AS Chip’s temperature control suite is, like all other TC mods, compatible with Ni200, Ti10, and SS316 and has a temperature range of 200 to 600 degrees Fahrenheit. However, the two supplied Heads for the Cerberus are both Kanthal, indicating once again just how superfluous temperature control has become in Mods such as this.

The GeekVape NOVA 200W box mod uses two hi-amp 18650 batteries that are accessed through a magnetic battery panel taking up an entire side of the Mod. For easy removal of the battery panel there is a notch on the top corner of the Mod. The magnetic door is held securely, and I found no battery rattle using 3 different brands of 18650 cells.

The NOVA 200W Mod features a MicroUSB port on the bottom of the faceplate side and can charge the cells up to 2A. This port and included USB cable is used for firmware upgrades as well, though I’ve seen no upgrade yet.

The front faceplate of the NOVA Mod begins at the top with an over-sized fire button, followed by a 0.96” color OLED display, with vertical placed stainless-steel adjustment buttons directly under the display.

The NOVA Mod’s 0.96-inch OLED display neatly displays all the necessary information a user might need and includes three color scheme options to choose from.

Basic Menu Operation of the GeekVape NOVA 200W TC Mod

The GeekVape NOVA is a 5-click on/off Box Mod.  To get into the setting menu, press the fire button three times rapidly. Once in the Menu you can move through the various operating modes, including Power, Temperature Control (for stainless steel, titanium and nickel), Bypass mode, TCR and VPC, just by pressing the ‘+’ and ‘- ‘buttons to move through them. Once you’ve made your selection keep the fire button pressed for about one second. Short pressing the fire button while one of the operating modes is highlighted will allow you to adjust some of the sub-parameters on the display.

The sub-parameters vary are dependent on what mode is highlighted, and only some modes can be adjusted. In Power (wattage) mode, you can lock the resistance of the atomizer coil as well as reset the puff counter, and while in TCR mode you can also set the wattage you want the mod to fire, as well as the temperature coefficient for your coil material.

The VPC mode is for Custom Power Curve Mode. You can adjust the power levels for 10 seconds, in 2-second increments, if you want to create a custom vaping experience.

You can set the color scheme by pressing the “+” and “–“ buttons while “in” the Modes Settings.

Lastly, you can lock the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons by pressing them at the same time for two seconds and adjust the brightness of the display by pressing the fire button and the ‘+’ or the ‘-‘ button at the same time.

The GeekVape As Chip menu is simple and intuitive once you go through it with the manual at least once. All the setting changes are done on the home screen, there are no sub-menus to lose you way.

The GeekVape Nova 200W box mod features a 510-gold-plated, spring loaded connection toward the back of the top portion of the Mod. It is not a centered connection.

The GeekVape Cerberus Sub-Ohm Tank

As it comes out of the box, the GeekVape Cerberus uses the 27mm 5.5ml bubble glass tube, and inside the box is a 4ml standard glass tube.  The Cerberus comes pre-installed with the 0.2-ohm X1 Super Mesh Coil with a wattage range of 30 to 90W, and an optimal range of 60 to 80W. With this Coil I found 66W provides a warm vape with intense flavor and thick, aromatic clouds of vapor. GeekVape provides an additional Coil of the same type. After 6 days of moderate to heavy vaping I am just now experiencing muted flavor, but not effect on the amount of vapor production.

Mesh Coils provide a much larger heating surface inside the wicking so that more eJuice is heated and vaporized then that of standard coils. Mesh Coils provide a more intense flavor experience and thicker clouds.

The GeekVape Cerberus Sub-Ohm Tank is also compatible with TFV8 Baby Beast Replacement Coils. However, the new V8 Baby V2 coils found with the SMOK Species Starter Kit (reviewed here) are not compatible. Ejuice is refilled by a simple twist-lock top cap. The Cerberus features dual adjustable 13mm by 2mm airflow slots as well as an 8mm 810-Wide-Bore stubby drip tip.

Vaping with the GeekVape NOVA 200W TC Mod and Cerberus Tank

GeekVape makes excellent mods and tanks, of that there is no doubt. The NOVA Mod is a beautiful resin mod that most Vapers will love using. However, the NOVA has only slightly rounded edges, so holding it in the palm of your hand for long periods might become a bit uncomfortable. Then again, not many of us actually hold a Mod in our hands for hours at a time, so I wouldn’t worry. Otherwise, the GeekVape NOVA is a first-class Mod, and the Cerberus Sub-Ohm is a superb tank. While I might want 2 or 3 extra mL of eJuice capacity, I cannot complain about the flavor fidelity or cloud production.

In addition, the Cerberus Sub-Ohm is built is high quality materials, its parts have very little tolerances, and it feels and vapes like a top-shelf Sub-Ohm tank. Despite being compatible with SMOK V8 Baby Coils, I doubt you’d get better flavor or vapor using them when compared with GeekVape Super Mesh coils.

Vaping the GeekVape NOVA and Cerberus Tank provides a truly joyful vaping experience and was definitely a conversation starter when others saw me vaping with it. I only wish I had sprung for the Black / Flare Resin and Black Cerberus Tank, but that will be rectified soon.

Bottom Line

The GeekVape NOVA 200W Starter Kit is a first-class starter kit providing excellent performance. The selling price is unexpected low for a GeekVape Starter Kit of this quality, and as I write this review you can pick it up at Element Vape for less than $65 for both the Mod, the Cerberus Tank, extra coils, and spare parts. Highly recommended.

A Word about Resin Mods – Due to the very nature of manufacturing and design of a resin product, each GeekVape Nova 200W Starter Kit features unique colorways and patterning. The Photos that accompany this Review are for reference purposes only. Each Nova Mod will be sent out at random, although users can choose a “colorway” in order to receive a resin mod in the buyers’ color preference.

Make Note: Power cells, aka, Batteries, need to be matched in brand, amperage, and mAh, as well as in good condition when using a dual or triple cell Mod. It is considered “Best Practice” to mark your married pair of batteries so that each time you use the device you can identify and use the same batteries. Failure to heed these instructions may result in injury, or worse. Never use a damaged battery or poorly wrapped batteries with any Mod.
