Intro and Specs for the VooPoo Drag Nano

Like we’ve mentioned roughly 1,001 times this month alone, mouth-to-lung vaping is back in a very big way, for a whole lot of people anyway. So, it’s no surprise that VooPoo decided to put out its own version of an advanced pod mod system, bearing the name of the company’s most-famous device. But rather than emulate similar “high-endpod systems, VooPoo decided to flip the script (as Eugene from The Walking Dead would say) and released the smallest, yet most technologically sound pod system to date.

Now, to be clear, if you’re not a fan of pod mods or ultra-portable devices, there’s nothing on the Drag Nano that’s going to change your mind. But if you’re a fan or in the market to become one, the Drag Nano might be the pod mod for you.

Is the VooPoo Drag Nano Pod Mod the Best Ultra-Portable Around? Maybe...

Okay, no matter which color scheme you choose, the only thing anyone is going to talk about is the size of the Drag Nano. We’ve used terms like “compact” and “palm-friendly” but never have these terms been more appropriate. Roughly the size of a silver dollar (or “an SD card” for the Gen-Z’ers who don’t know what coins are) the Drag Nano could get lost in the folds of a CVS receipt if you’re not careful.

Yep, the Drag Nano measures a shade under 1.5 inches in height, and just 1.94 ounces on the scale. If the math isn’t computing, know that VooPoo packed in a chain/lanyard with the Drag Nano to make sure you don’t lose it easily. It’s that small.

But that’s not a measure of performance. Aimed squarely at mouth-to-lung vapers (including no adjustable airflow) the mod includes a 1.8-ohm coil system and a 750mAh battery that should give steady users about 350 draws on a charge. And it’s supposedly a quick recharge, as well, getting back to speed in just under an hour.

(Side note: I know pod mods have brought back some elements of the original e-cigarettes, but do we really need to get back to the “puff count” measurement? What’s next – a measurement of how a pod equals a pack of smokes? Come on, marketing teams… let’s not do that.)

Underneath this ridiculously small hood is the proprietary GENE.POD chipset, which is optimized for the Drag Nano’s target capabilities, and even features the all-new Intelligent Cold Boot mode. Like we predicted, this is just jargon-talk for saying the puff quality will remain consistent from first puff to last. That said, the mod definitely maintained a good level of MTL performance during our testing period.

One item of note – the chassis is built from the same zinc alloy VooPoo uses on their full-sized mods, but the slender frame size means it’s not nearly as rugged and durable as its big brothers. While a few drops aren’t going to affect the Drag Nano’s performance, I would be extra careful about stepping on it or even sitting on it at the wrong angle.

Finally, one of my only complaints about the Drag Nano’s look/feel is the LED light system, which has three colors to indicate battery level and other notifications. I’ve never liked these setups, but this one is particularly weak, with dim lights and unclear readouts. Green looks too much like blue, and red shows up “all of a sudden” when vaping heavily.

My vote? Let’s work together to find a better way to convey this information without overdoing the pod mod design. LED colors isn’t getting it done.

Vaping the VooPoo Drag Nano

Because this is a tiny, simple pod system, there really aren’t any “standout features,” so we’re not including that section. Besides, I’m not sure if this qualifies as a “feature” anyway, but let it be known to all who might care – the VooPoo Drag Nano might offer the best flavor of any pod system we’ve used (MIGHT, being the operative word). Part of this can be attributed to the snug, but still potent draw quality, which hits the back of your throat in grand fashion.

I used nic-salt liquids exclusively with the Drag Nano and was rewarded with some deep, sharp flavors and more throat hit than 1,000 mech mods could ever hope to offer. The draw is definitely an MTL pull and trying to direct lung this mod will only lead to coughing fits and poor experiences. But when used like a cigarette, the Drag Nano provides an authentic experience, with some surprisingly thick vapor quality, to boot.

Normally, I wouldn’t prefer a draw-activated system, because it’s too far removed from how I normally vape. But here, it just seems to work seamlessly.

The pods themselves also need a shout. While 1mL capacities don’t really excite me, you really couldn’t expect more from a mod this small. So, yes, you’ll probably be filling more than you would with “normal” sized pod mods, these cartridges have each lasted me several weeks, which is CONSIDERABLY more than competing products.

Battery life is better than expected, too. I’m not sure how they crammed a 750mAh battery into this diminutive frame, but they did it, and without any excess heat, even after heavy use. This was a concern we all had when first seeing the mod and are thrilled to report that it’s not an issue with the Drag Nano.

So, don’t go expecting all-day vaping on a single charge, but the GENE chipset is plenty efficient, and should get you through most of a workday without having to plug in. Of course, once you do recharge, it takes roughly one hour to go from empty to full, so you’re never without your Drag Nano for very long anyway.

Pros:

– Unbelievable flavor clarity

– Smooth, consistent power

– Excellent pod lifespan

Cons:

– Maybe TOO small?

– Limited juice capacity

– Horrible LED light indicators

Spinfuel VAPE Recommendation and Score

It’s a rarity here, but most of the Spinfuel VAPE team is fully behind the VooPoo Drag Nano pod mod system. While the excessively small frame and limited juice capacity didn’t excite us at first, we were won over by the sheer flavor and overall vape quality. VooPoo managed to squeeze a ridiculous amount of technology into this little frame, and they did it while keeping the experience front of mind. If smaller and more discreet is where you want to be, there are few devices that can even compete with the Drag Nano.
