Is vaping safer than smoking cigarettes? This is a debate that has been going on for quite some time. If you are a regular cigarette smoker and you are trying to quit, then I am sure that the idea of switching to e-cigarettes has crossed your mind. According to Research, you are not alone; studies show that seven out of ten smokers are trying to quit smoking. Here are a few relevant facts that will help you compare cigarette smoking and vaping devices.

Comparing Cigarettes With Vaping Devices

What is vaping?

If you are addicted to nicotine, why do you want to stick to smoking tobacco? Cigs are more harmful, having chemicals you do not even know about, many of which are possibly cancerous. Instead, if you are just looking for nicotine, you need to look at vaping.

Vaping can be described as the act of inhaling and exhaling on vapes, or vaping devices.  The latter use battery and they have initially shaped liked smoke sticks, but they are now also available as vape mods, Vape pens, and the ever popular Juuls.

What is the e-cigarette make up?

Vapes contain a cartridge or ‘tank’ of fluid which you inhale once it is vaporized. The fluid contains nicotine, which is extracted from tobacco, a million different potential flavors, and propylene glycol and/or vegetable glycerin, in varying ratios . The battery powers the device so that it can heat the fluid through the ‘atomizer’ or ‘coil’. The first vaping devices were designed to look like regular ciggies, but modern e-cigarettes are different. Also, there are vaping devices which comprise of marijuana instead of nicotine.

What is the comparison between vaping and cigarette smoking?

Similarities

Both vaping and cigarettes contain nicotine, which is the primary element. Nicotine is very addictive. According to studies, e-cigarettes contain more nicotine because there are vaping devices which have a higher cartridge that can increase the concentration of nicotine.  If a smoker ignores the craving to smoke, then they are likely to have withdrawal symptoms. Also, nicotine increases your chances of getting a heart attack because it raises your blood levels.

They are both harmful to the environment. People assume that because vaping is odorless and smokeless, it does not harm the environment. However, studies published by the International Journal of Hygiene and Environmental Health show that vaping has adverse effects on the quality of air. This is especially if they are smoked indoors. They increase the concentration of airborne particles and volatile organic compounds, which are toxic.

Differences

Vaping is less harmful than traditional smoking. This is because there are fewer chemicals which are found in e-cigarettes than in cigarettes. For instance, in vaping the primary ingredients are nicotine, solvents, and flavorings. On the other hand, cigarettes contain over 7000 chemicals, most of which are toxic harmful to your health. The possible diseases which one can get from traditional smoking include heart disease, stroke, cancer, hypertension, and emphysema. However, this does not mean that e-cigarettes do not have long terms of health risk. Since they have been recently introduced, research is still being conducted. Also, the ingredients used in e-cigarettes vary from one manufacturer to another.
