The FanceeJuice e-Liquid Review – The Interview
Assistant Editor Julia Barnes recently spoke with Dan Connor of FanceeJuice e-Liquid to discuss several issues concerning the modern eCigarette industry as well as several topics about FanceeJuice specifically. SPINFUEL: Who or what inspired you to get into the e-juice business?
FANCEE: The true inspiration to start FanceeJuice came from getting frustrated with the vendors that we had been ordering our juices from. As the saying goes “be the change you wish to see” – We decided to jump headfirst into DIY, and 8 months of daily iteration later we launched our website!
SPINFUEL: Do you steep your eLiquids before they are shipped?
FANCEE: We don’t pre-steep our juices as of right now since we mix each bottle the day it’s ordered. Our recommended steeping time is 2 weeks for our higher PG mixes, and sometimes it even takes up to 3 weeks for the higher VG juices to fully incorporate the flavors. Personally, I start vaping our juices the day I mix them, but they get noticeably better when you let them sit and do their thing.
SPINFUEL: How are your eLiquids packaged? What sizes do you offer? FanceeJuice e-Liquid
FANCEE: Great question! We currently offer 3 sizes of glass dropper bottles – 3.6ml / 15ml / 30ml. We also send a 6ml plastic sample with every order.
We put a lot of effort into our packaging and use cardboard tubes to offer a clean look with a high degree of protection for our glass bottles. We finish the tubes with hemp twine and a custom-made wax seal.
SPINFUEL: After a hard day’s work, what category of juice do you reach for?
FANCEE: When we get home from the office at the end of the day, we head to our stash of Signature flavors that seem to be pretty popular with our customers as well.
SPINFUEL: How often do you vape? How many hours per day with FanceeJuice e-Liquid
FANCEE: We vape all day! We’re constantly trying new combinations of flavors, so it’s tough to think about not vaping when you have a bucket full of flavors to analyze and improve.
SPINFUEL: Do each of you have your own “favorite” flavor? What is your favorite category of eLiquids for your personal vaping?
FANCEE: We pretty much have a tank full of any one of our signature flavors at all times. They’re signatures for a reason 🙂 We prefer the more complex flavors such as American Pie and Peppered Chocomint for richer and fuller flavors, and we REALLY like LimeBerry and BAM when we’re looking for something fruity.
SPINFUEL: How would you describe your FanceeJuice e-Liquid flavors?
FANCEE: I would describe our flavors as being clean but still laced with a strong throat hit. Most of our flavors are pretty complex, and depending on your method (drip/tank/carto) you will pick up different tastes, but you’re never left with a chemical taste in your mouth.
SPINFUEL: How important is it to use pharmaceutical grade ingredients?
FANCEE: I think this is the most important aspect of taking the responsibility of selling e-juice to vapers. What we’re doing is selling something that someone is going to inhale into his or her lungs. Most business owners don’t have to think about the repercussions of a drop extra of this, or an ml extra of that. When you use the best ingredients available, it allows you to sleep well at night! Our prices are perhaps on the higher end of the spectrum, but you’re getting a quality that exceeds our asking price. We research and test every ingredient that we use, and if it doesn’t make the cut it gets thrown away and we find someone new to order our ingredients from.
SPINFUEL: If Vaping is 99.9% safer than analog cigarettes, why should teens be discouraged from vaping?
FANCEE: It comes down to a simple concept. If you’re not currently addicted to nicotine, why immerse yourself into a costly habit? Skydiving is also considered relatively safe, but you’re best bet is to hang out on the ground and not get into the plane. Our feelings are if you’re not in the situation of being addicted to nicotine/tobacco, there’s no reason to pick up a “less harmful” alternative because inhaling anything is harmful compared to not doing so.
SPINFUEL: That is the best answer to this question we’ve ever received. I believe your answer changed our Editor-in-Chief’s position on teen vaping!
SPINFUEL: What is your suggested PG/VG mix for FanceeJuice e-Liquid? Reasoning?
FANCEE: 75:25 – 70:30 PG/VG. We really like that mix because it offers up a solid amount of vapor, and gives a real strong throat hit. To us, it’s the best of both worlds. Due to the customizable nature of vaping, we allow our customers to choose between that, 50:50 and 30:70.
SPINFUEL: How do you make sure that your flavors are always consistent, that each batch or bottle delivers the same flavor and nicotine levels time after time?
FANCEE: We’re always making sure everything that we source is up to par. We titrate test our nicotine bi-weekly to make sure that we are mixing based on correct numbers, and we test out all flavors in our own devices before putting them into “production”. Every day, we pull one bottle out of each order and put a few drops into a drip set up to make sure our quality is up to par. If for whatever reason it’s not, that bottle gets recycled and we start over.
SPINFUEL: Do you mix customer’s orders by the bottle or by the batch?
FANCEE: We do a mix of both. We work in 5 bottle lots, which help us keep confusion and errors to a minimum. Each order is done separately, regardless of how many bottles are ordered. Plus, with all of our customization options, it’s not feasible to have a pre made version or batch ready to just be transferred to the right sized bottle.
SPINFUEL: Why should our readers buy their e-juice from you?
FANCEE: Great question 🙂 for us, E-juice is a labor of love. We took our time getting our flavors right and setting up the infrastructure to build a fantastic juice company. All of our current customers will vouch for us when I say our flavors kick ass! Anyone that has ordered a LimeBerry from us has made a return order for more. We are super quick with our processing times, and customer satisfaction is our number one priority. The flavors we have on the site are just the ones we are most proud of. We could load up our site with 75 flavors and call it a day, but we stick to our best juices, and approach every order with a desire to impress whoever is on the receiving end.
SPINFUEL: What advice do you have for people that are new to vaping?
FANCEE: I’d say Jump in with both feet and go for an Ego or a Vision Spinner. When you mess around with the (not so) cheap and low quality starter kits, you end up with batteries going dead and issues that end up costing you way more, and that leaves you with thoughts of going back to tobacco. If you’re going to start vaping, do it right, get a high quality set up, and you’ll never think about analogs again.
SPINFUEL: Safety is a huge factor today. What kind of measures do you take to make sure that your e-juice is safe to consume? What methods do you use to prevent contamination or other factors that can harm your product?
FANCEE: Excellent question! This was the first thing we thought about before even getting into basic at-home DIY. Cleanliness is something we’ve become moderately OCD about. Our mixing room is sanitized daily, all tools are thoroughly cleaned daily with a full overhaul of the facility every Sunday. We’re pretty firm believers in the idea that how you do anything is how you do everything. If you’re a perfectionist in cleaning, that’s going to carry over to your juice mixing, your customer service, and your web presence. You can’t just decide to try and be thorough in one aspect of your business. You have to be committed to doing the little things like cleaning to perfection, and everything you do will follow suit.
One step we took is to switch to using distilled water for all of our cleaning. It’s obviously a bit more expensive than using tap water, but we don’t have to stress over whether or not there could be dissolved solids sitting in a syringe we just cleaned or a bottle we just rinsed.
We have a dedicated facility for our business, which seems to be a big issue right now in the industry. It’s easy to hide behind a website and mix juices on your kitchen table, but we ask ourselves every day “What would our customers think if they were watching right now?”
SPINFUEL: Where do you think the ecig industry is headed? Are eCigs the future of smoking?
FANCEE: I think the Ecig industry has nowhere to go but up! We live in the information age where you can learn about anything by typing it into Google. With the younger generations knowing full well the dangers of tobacco, I think they’ll realize that cigarettes are a thing of the past. And as Electronic Cigarettes become the subjects of larger and more thorough studies, I think we’ll be able to definitively see the effects of vaping, and iterate from there to create the least harmful nicotine replacement products available.
SPINFUEL: Is there anything else you’d like to say to our readers?
FANCEE: Being solely a juice maker, we understand that shipping costs end up eating away at your vape fund. We just set up a new daily promotion called “Fancee Hour” where we bring our free shipping minimum from $50 down to $30 from 10AM to 11AM EST Monday through Friday. When you are buying batteries from one place, atomizers from another, and juice from yet another website, that is at least $15-$30 in shipping costs. That’s a month’s worth of juice for some people! We really try to get into the minds of our customers and think about what would make their lives better, and we think this is right on track with that mindset.
Other than that, every order ships with at least 1 free sample, usually 2 if time permits!
